This is my first time participating in any of the SFR Brigade stuff and I'm excited about it. Be sure to check out the other snippets!
I'm presenting, for the first time online, 200 words from my completed SFR "My Name Is A'yen", back cover blurb here. It's from the opening scene. A'yen is a slave, along with the rest of his race, and he's been in limbo for a year after the death of his owner. Please join A'yen as he sees his future wife for the first time.
His internal clock hit twenty minutes at the exact moment a pair of black boots appeared. The small feet said they belonged to a woman, but he dared not look up. This hold keeper was liberal in his punishment. The feet stepped closer. “You were owned by a cartographer?” Indeed, a woman.
“Yes.”
“A member of the guild?”
“Yes.”
“You can look up.”
He did, and the breath left his body. Five inches shorter than his six feet four, but petite at the same time. Hair dark as a black hole framed a kind looking face, with bright green eyes studying him. She glanced down at her tablet again and he sucked air into his lungs. Never before had he found a human woman so attractive.

I am intrigued. You've given me just enough to wonder so many things. He's a slave, but she'll be his wife? She obviously has power over him or he wouldn't be kneeling waiting for her to acknowledge him. Great excerpt.
ReplyDeleteTense set up, raises many questions inagoodway. Excellent excerpt!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Kyndra! I love history as much as I love science fiction and had to get history into this somehow.
DeleteAnd thank you to everyone who's read it and commented so far. Will definitely be doing this again.
Looking forward to reading more of this one. Love the interaction.
